Artists
Eric Anifinson and I met in Boulder back in 2001 when he seemed … shall I say … clueless as to what he should do with his life. Then I moved to Seattle and he moved to Key West, fast forward 10 years and he one of Key West’s most renowned artists (I didn’t even know he could draw.) There is such a rich, mysterious and sexy depth to his art. One of my red hot desires is for Eric to paint my daughter and I.
Bonnie Tarses is a High Priestess of the Loom. She weaves shawls, scarves, you name it. Though (in my opinion) her genius of all geniuses is her baby blankets. Get this: She has a system of weaving words into these blankets and has 9 relatives submit a word that describes their highest quality that they wished to be passed down to the gestating baby. Then she weaves these nine words with bamboo and recycled cashmere (from old sweaters that she unknits) and creates as she so perfectly states, “one powerful cloth.”
She made one for my little guy and I can barely describe how amazing it is to see him snuggle up with this deliciously thick, strong and ultra soft blanket of power words. It is my son’s most loved possession and is sized for a lifetime. As he graduates to bigger beds, it will perfectly cover a twin and will become a runner for the foot of a king or a queen. It will also cover his legs when he is a sage (gulp) and be a beloved family heirloom. Truly, if you are looking for the beyond the beyond baby gift, this blanket is the ultimate.
Sandy Haight is a fine artist who designed the sumi logo for this site. I first saw her art in a local gallery and immediately contacted her about creating a t-shirt. My logo above was the first image she sent me. I opened the file and to my pleasant surprise discovered that she drew my ass:) I had no need to look any further. “She” was the one. Sandy is a dream to work/create with and has a beautiful gift for the sensuality of nature and art.
