Feel Nauseated? You Have a Third Chakra

The third chakra is located in our solar plexus and spins a vibrant yellow color. This is the center that governs digestion and our immune system, which … are pretty important for our well-being. Thus, awareness of this one is a great idea.

Most of what is written about the third chakra uses the term “personal power.” For all the many years I have heard about chakras, “personal power” has never meant much to me. Then my lovely chakra guru described it as our center for “self-love” and all the lights went on.

What is self-love? Is it staring in the mirror and adoring every part of your body? Yes. Is it throwing your arms around yourself, no matter what? Yes. Though, it is in those critical moments of believing in ourselves and facing this critical question: “Can I successfully move toward what I really desire?”, that this chakra will be felt (I know, some of you are feeling nauseated just reading that sentence.) Truly, this is no small matter. In the world of energy medicine, not believing that we have everything it takes to create our happiness, is at the root of many diseases.

Like most, my experience of my third chakra seems complicated. On one hand, she is spinning beautifully (I obviously write this blog and think someone will read it). BUT I have definitely hit many walls of severe doubt where I wondered if I could make it. In these moments, the tight band around my belly is always there.

What is your experience of your solar plexus? Your digestion? Your immunity? When does your third chakra call out to you?

The Juicy Chakra

Aaaaaahhhhh the ever lustful, honorably honest and radically misunderstood second chakra. After reading this little post, I hope you never look at lower back pain the same way.

The pelvis is a wildly dynamic area of the body. Anatomically the home of sexual function and gestation, the entire human race is a result of the pelvis’ miraculous physical abilities. From an energy perspective, my chakra guru calls the second chakra, “The Juicy Chakra” and describes its bright orange spin (remember, chakras are wheels that spin) as dependent on our capacity for passion, happiness and emotions .

I could go on and on about these three aspects (coming soon) but let’s answer this question first: What did your parents tell you about passion, happiness and emotions? If you were lucky, you were encouraged to “work hard” for the second one, and really lucky if you heard something about the first. The further back you look in your family tree, the more deafening the silence becomes. Our passions, happiness and feelings have been oppressed for a long, long time.

I actually believe that most of the world’s problems can be traced to a severe disconnect and fear of this chakra … but that is a whole other adorable post.

Next time your lower back flares up (or any of the other many ways our pelvis can fall ill), do your best to recognize which of your emotions need some lovin’. Shelve your desire to be rational, and revel in your primal and mega-informative grief and frustration. I know it doesn’t necessarily feel good and it’s even terrifying for some of us, but it absolutely is good and key to a health filled life. Enlist whoever you need in order to be with this part of yourself (therapist, healer, great friend.) Emotions LOVE Vitamin See.

More greatness to come about this chakra AND I highly recommend this CD: The Seven Primary Chakras: Balance Your Human Energy System, by Marie Manucherhi for anyone who desires a clear and feminine take on our chakra system.

Belonging: The Root Chakra

Beginning at the perineum and extending down your legs, through your feet and into the earth, you have a big, beautiful, red root chakra (say that three times fast!) This energy center has the potential to extend for miles towards the earth’s center.

This chakra is primarily about your experience with your family of origin which profoundly affects our beliefs about survival and security.

From the perspective of the feminine-essence, this chakra is about belonging: belonging to a tribe and equally important, belonging to the earth.

With our cultural emphasis on independence and freedom, belonging can be a loaded concept. I know it is for me. When you look at American history, it’s a no-brainer why many of us feel mixed-up about belonging: The entire country was established by people who had to leave where they belonged (except for American Indians, who were forced to stop belonging where they belonged.)

Belonging is essential to the vitality of all beings … especially women. Up until the last century, if a woman did not “belong” to a man, her chances of making it were slim. But more important than belonging to men, women have a primal need to belong to each other. It’s called sisterhood.

For many of us, sisterhood is another loaded concept. However, when sisterhood is set free from the trappings of male psychology, it is one of the most dazzling and healing phenomena of the human experience.

If I piqued your curiousity about the root chakra, check out this CD entitled “The Seven Primary Chakras, by the ultra divine Marie Manucherhri.

If I got you thinking about belonging, start noticing when you feel like you belong or not. Where do you feel belonging or not-belonging in your body? Who do you belong to?

AND, if I made any cells in your body smile softly, grin, say “wow” or “right on!” or any variation of these, please share this with your world (options below.) Thank you:)

Woo Woo 101: You Have Seven Chakras

This is the first post in a series called "Woo Woo 101."

A chakra is an emotional energy center in the body that governs the organs in a certain area. There are seven and they each have a different color. They go unseen in the relative world, though many have the gift of seeing them and Reiki healers can feel them with their hands.

Many people think chakras are some spiritual new age “woo woo,” but they are actually quite obvious, especially when you are stressed or sick.

You know how some life issues make your stomach turn, while others make your legs feel weak and then others make your chest tight. Those are your chakras. Where you feel your disturbance is not a coincidence. The world of energy medicine asserts that all physical ailments and injuries have an emotional/chakra component. Pay attention to where and why your body lights up/experiences stress and you will find a dynamic and vast world of energy.

I love chakras for many reasons, but here are the top three: First, what they stand for is totally beautiful (I get all choked up just thinking about them). I will be covering this in upcoming posts. Second, they provide incredible feedback for what is really going on for us. Our minds create all sorts of crazy stories about what is happening, but our chakras are straight up. Always in the moment and radically honest, chakras are an amazing map to a wonderful life. And third, although all beings have chakras, as I see them, they are an unambiguous portal into the divine-feminine.

So there you have it. If you think I might be onto something, do the simple and profound task of noticing the sensations in your body. See if you notice themes with certain people and situations. Simply notice.

Did any of your chakras light up while reading this? If so, why not light up other people’s chakras by passing this along. My heart chakra thanks you!
